Course Description

FOET – Further Offshore Emergency Training is the industry-standard refresher certification for personnel working in the offshore oil and gas industry. This OPITO-approved FOET training provides delegates with the opportunity to practice and demonstrate emergency response skills which are not possible to practice during drills, exercises and emergency offshore training.

Our OPITO-approved FOET training covers critical safety topics including helicopter safety, sea survival, fire fighting, and emergency first aid. Delegates receive hands-on training using state-of-the-art simulation equipment at our Deep Water Simulation Training Center (DSTC) in Port Harcourt.

Course Aims

The FOET programme is designed to meet the further offshore safety and emergency response training requirements for personnel working in the offshore oil and gas industry. Delegates have the opportunity to practice and demonstrate emergency response skills which are not possible to practice during drills, exercises and emergency offshore training.

The course aims to:

• Refresh and reinforce emergency response skills – Providing delegates with the opportunity to practice critical emergency procedures.
• Meet recertification requirements – Ensuring delegates maintain valid offshore safety certification.
• Build confidence in emergency situations – Through realistic simulations and hands-on practice.
• Maintain international safety standards – Ensuring delegates remain compliant with OPITO and industry requirements.
• Reinforce a culture of safety – Instilling the importance of personal and team safety in the offshore environment.

Course Objectives

The objectives of the FOET are that delegates will be able to:

• Demonstrate, in a simulated environment, that they can use the safety equipment, and follow procedures in preparing for and during helicopter emergencies – with particular focus on escaping from a helicopter following ditching.
• Demonstrate that they can use basic firefighting equipment effectively, and use self-rescue techniques in low visibility and completely obscured visibility situations e.g. smoke filled areas.
• Demonstrate that they can perform basic first aid.
• Demonstrate sea survival techniques including life raft boarding and emergency signaling.
• Use the Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System (CA-EBS) during helicopter escape.
• Work effectively as part of a team during offshore emergencies.

Prerequisite Requirements

To attend the FOET course, delegates must meet the following requirements:

Recertification

FOET certification is valid for 4 years. To maintain certification:

• Complete FOET Recertification – Take the 1-day FOET course before your current certification expires.
• Full BOSIET Recertification – Complete the full 3-day BOSIET or T-BOSIET course if preferred.
• Online Theory Refresher – Access to our online learning portal for theory updates between courses.
