The OPITO HUET (Helicopter Underwater Escape Training) is the industry-standard certification for all personnel traveling to offshore oil and gas installations via helicopter. This comprehensive HUET training prepares delegates for emergency situations, providing the knowledge and skills needed for safe helicopter travel and underwater escape.

Our OPITO-approved HUET training covers critical safety topics including pre-flight and in-flight requirements, helicopter emergency procedures, and practical underwater escape techniques using our state-of-the-art simulation equipment at the Deep Water Simulation Training Center (DSTC) in Port Harcourt.

Course Aims

The HUET training programme is designed for oil and gas personnel traveling to oil and gas installations/facilities via helicopter. It will prepare delegates traveling via helicopter with the specific training in pre-flight and in-flight requirements, basic emergency response knowledge and skills required in the event of an emergency – with specific focus on escaping the helicopter following ditching.

The course aims to:

Course Objectives

The objectives of the HUET Training are that delegates will be able to:

• Demonstrate, in a simulated environment, that they can use the safety equipment, and follow procedures in preparing for, and during helicopter emergencies – with particular focus on escaping from a helicopter following ditching.
• Correctly use safety equipment including life jackets, breathing apparatus, and emergency breathing systems.
• Perform pre-flight safety checks and understand helicopter emergency procedures.
• Escape from a helicopter following ditching using approved HUET techniques.
• Use the Compressed Air Emergency Breathing System (CA-EBS) during helicopter escape.
• Demonstrate sea survival techniques including life raft boarding and emergency signaling.
• Work effectively as part of a team during helicopter emergencies.
